Ball Tagawa Growers is a greenhouse production facility, propagating ornamental plant seedlings. We purchase seed and cuttings to produce trays of seedlings, which are sold wholesale to other growers for finishing.
The position is a bit hard to define because it is very much a niche industry. So here is a snapshot....
The production of plants involves a great deal of planning and monitoring, as we are producing a living product. If there is a shortage of seed or some cuttings arrive in poor condition, we need to make sure the customer is informed promptly of a shortage or delay. Sometimes there are problems growing the plant and it has to ship later to complete root development.
The seed inventory needs to be monitored to make certain the seed is available for sowing on schedule. One would need to evaluate demand and ensure orders are placed in time.
Weekly tasks include producing production schedules, such as sowing schedules.
Some tasks are time-sensitive with hard wired deadlines, so focus and self-direction is needed. No micromanaging here!
It is a dynamic environment with some awesome, skilled and knowledgeable people who are passionate about plants.
